ABOUT GORNA BREZNITSA MONASTERY

The Gorna Breznitsa “St. Elijah The Prophet” monastery is settled in the Malashevska mountain. It is located 2 km. to the west of the Gorna Breznitsa village, and 23km to the north of Sandanski.
Nobody knows when the monastery was established, but it was destroyed in the period of the Ottoman rule and later XX th century (1992) it was renewed. Nowadays the monastery is active. The monastery represents a complex – church and a residential building.
