ABOUT OSMAN PAZVANTOGLU’S MOSQUE AND LIBRARY
The mosque and the library of Pazvantoglu were built in 1798 – 1800. They have been preserved till nowadays as one of the central coupon buildings. According to some explorers, there was a school in the complex, but there is not any specific information about it. Very interesting is the location of the buildings, because the library was built two years later. The mosque is massive, stone building with oriental architecture. Its pray hall is vast, with wood – carved furniture, decorated ceiling and big wood carved rossete in the middle. The wooden terrace (for women) is not separated from the other premises. The atmosphere in the mosque is absolutely preserved. The minaret is remarkable with its clear details. Leaving his own symbols, Pazvantoglu marked his independence from the sultan and from the official symbol – half-moon. According to the front door subscription, Pazvantoglu dedicated this mosque to his father, who had been killed in
Vidin after sultan’s order.
The library is stone, covered with a coupon, with small open premises, covered with coupon. Some of its books are preserved in the
National Library “St. St. Kiril and Metodi”,
Sofia and 92 of them are of world significance – literature, history, medicine and law in Ottoman and French. In the back yard of the non-existing mosque - “Mustafa pasha” is preserved the grave of the Pazvantoglu – marble, decorated with arabesques.
