ABOUT THE MONASTERY

The Vakarel monastery “St. Petka” is situated in the Ihtiman part of Sredna Gora mountain, about 2km. south of the village of Vakarel. The monastery is a new one. It was founded in the 20 th century and nowadays it is non active. It used to be a monastery for nuns. The Patronal feast is celebrated on the 14 th of October.
“St. Petka” is a complex of a church and a residential building. The church is a basilica.
The monastery is a part of the Ihtiman spiritual district.
