ABOUT THE TRYAVNA SCHOOL
The Tryavna school was built in 1893. It ranked among the first secular schools in Bulgaria. The building of the school is the biggest one on the old square in Tryavna that attracts with its architecture and size.
The first teacher there was Dimitar Daskalov (1815 – 1899) from the village of Samovodene. And in the course of 8 years Petko R. Slaveikov (an eminent Bulgarian writer), was teaching there.
In 1847 in the school was set up a knigohranitelnitsa (book depository), one of the earliest known in Bulgaria. Most of the books were a gift from Vasil Aprilov (a well-known Bulgarian enlightener).
In 1871 the local community centre was established there. It became a centre of literature and education, as well as of dissemination of revolutionary ideas.
