ABOUT DASKALOVATA HOUSE
Daskalovata house is а museum of woodcarving. It was build up in 1804-1808 by master Dimitar Oshanetza and his assistant Ivan Bochoukovetza. In 1808 both men made a bet and contented for the mastery of the ceiling which took them 6 months to carve. The wood carving evoke memories of the first –ever art competition held in Bulgaria.
The house holds the one and only in this country museum of wood – carving, as well as wood – carvings and wood sculptures of Bulgarian khans and czars, and bas-reliefs of outstanding figures from the National Revival period – all these being the handiwork of Gencho Marangoza, a distinct master wood – carver. The house is architectural monument with national consequence.
